Introduction

eTCAD is a numerical simulation tool based on semiconductor physics. It can simulate different process conditions, design and optimize different devices, and simulate circuit performance and electrical characteristics of devices. eTCAD consists of components for modeling, subdivision (supporting finite difference and finite volume methods), simulation and visualization, as well as the automated platform for users which allows the free creationof various simulation scenarios based on the scripting language Python. Additionally, it supports various CMOS device models.

Features

  • Script Automation

A complete process for device modeling, subdivision, simulation and visualization is implemented through Python scripts.
  • Modeling

eTCAD has a Python interface to directly builds regions, and comes with various device templates to flexibly build 3D models for different semiconductor devices. It also supports CMOS device modeling.
  • Subdivision

eTCAD supports the finite difference mesh (FDM), which is intuitive and mature in theory, applicable for irregular areas, highly demanding in regional continuity, and easy to programme and run. It also supports both Gauss and Erf doping.
  • Simulation

eTCAD uses numerical algorithms such as finite differential method and Gummel iteration to solve the drift diffusion model (DDM) with Poisson equation and current continuity equation as the core, including the physical models of semiconductor devices such as mobility and generation-recombination. It can also accurately simulate the physical spatial distribution and IV characteristic curve of various devices. It supports 3D device simulation and pipeline program architecture.
  • Visualization

Using the ParaView 3D visualization tool, eTCAD allows you to view the 3D distribution maps for the electrostatic potential of mesh point and carrier concentration. By using the eVisual tool, it can also display and compare IV characteristic curves. In addition, it also supports 3D carrier concentration display and plots.
